The Lakeside at Nuwarawewa was first built as the Nuwarawewa Rest House in 1957, and was declared open by the then Prime Minister of Ceylon SWRD Bandaranaike. In Sri Lanka Rest houses were built by the Government in towns throughout the country to provide public servants on duty, and domestic tourists with clean, simple and value for money accommodation. This has been
our guiding principle too; with a few improvements added of course. A few years ago the Hotel at Nuwarawewa was modernized and rebranded as 'The Lakeside at Nuwarawewa'.
